 Improvised Aids

Laboratory apparatus, equipments and other instructional materials like models made out of low cost materials easily available materials and ordinary materials useless or waste materials are called improvised aids. The term 'improvisation' means designing and producing improvised aids from simple materials found in our surroundings. Improvised aids are prepared by students under the guidance of the teacher.

Characteristics of improvised aids

· Easily available either free or low cost.

· Improvisation do not involve specialised skills and it can be done by students or teachers.

· Easy to handle and effective in teaching learning process.

· Production of improvised aids is simple and inexpensive.

· Improvised aids are simple, accurate and appropriate to the age level.

· Stimulates thinking, responding, discussing, experimenting and further study.

· Production of improvised aids is not time-consuming.

· Free from complaints.

Values or Advantages of improvised aids

· Improvised aids are of low cost and inexpensive, reducing the expenditure of the school.

3. Social value

· Doing work with their own hands develops loyalty towards labour.

· Students learn the skill of working together.

· Reduces the barrier between mental and manual labour.

· Habits of co-operation, dignity of labour etc can be used in the daily life of the child.

4. Recreational value

· Improvisation helps to think about more creative activities even on holidays and leisure.

· Designing and inventing an apparatus  can be taken as a hobby.

5. Practical value

· Improvisation teaches to work in an organized way.

· Students can make things which are useful for them, repair old apparatus and take interest in caring and maintaining all apparatus and equipments.

  Mastery Learning Mastery learning  is an instructional approach designed to ensure that all students achieve a level of mastery in the subjects being taught. It originated with educational theorists such as Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi  and John Amos Comenius , but the modern concept was popularized by Dr. Benjamin S. Bloom  in 1968.
