Laboratory apparatus, equipments and other instructional materials like models made out of low cost materials easily available materials and ordinary materials useless or waste materials are called improvised aids. The term 'improvisation' means designing and producing improvised aids from simple materials found in our surroundings. Improvised aids are prepared by students under the guidance of the teacher.
Characteristics of improvised aids
· Easily available either free or low cost.
· Improvisation do not involve specialised skills and it can be done by students or teachers.
· Easy to handle and effective in teaching learning process.
· Production of improvised aids is simple and inexpensive.
· Improvised aids are simple, accurate and appropriate to the age level.
· Stimulates thinking, responding, discussing, experimenting and further study.
· Production of improvised aids is not time-consuming.
· Free from complaints.
